The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) announced the implementation of a thorough campaign to combat mosquitoes and flies in various areas of the Emirate of Ajman, as part of its 24/7 efforts to protect public health, curb the spread of public health pests, and enhance the readiness of its field teams to address rainy season-related environmental challenges, thus contributing to improving life quality and community safety, enhancing health practice-backing infrastructure, and strengthening food and environmental management.
In this connection, Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the MPDA’s Public Health and Environment Sector, asserted that the campaign is being implemented under an integrated field plan that includes daily work over morning and evening shifts, with the participation of 122 technicians and 27 team leaders, under the supervision and monitoring of 9 pest control specialists, engineers, and supervisors, and using 49 service vehicles distributed across the Emirate.
Smart technologies, sophisticated equipment
Al Hosani noted that the campaign utilizes 317 pieces of integrated and diverse pest control equipment and tools, including small, medium, and large-capacity sprayers, handheld and vehicle-mounted thermal and cold fogging machines, vehicle-mounted ultra-low volume sprayers, smart mosquito traps, and modern technologies, ensuring high efficiency in pest control operations.
Field monitoring and prevention
The MPDA’s teams conduct regular field visits to monitor various work sites and carry out preventative control measures under best practices in integrated pest management, thus contributing to reducing the density of mosquitoes and flies within permissible limits and maintaining a healthy and safe environment across the Emirate, Al Hosani said.
Protecting public health
The campaign is geared towards curbing the spread of diseases transmitted by these pests and ensuring a healthy and safe environment for community members, by using environmentally friendly and sustainable pesticides and materials, in line with the MPDA’s plan to protect public health and promote environmental sustainability, Al Hosani added.
The MPDA affirms its commitment to continuing its field and monitoring programs and plans, and to strengthening coordination with relevant authorities, to ensure control over public health pests and enhance the Emirate’s readiness to deal with various environmental conditions, a matter which plays great part in the maintaining sustainability of services and community health and safety.
