The Ajman Municipality and Planning Department organised an awareness workshop for real estate companies operating in Ajman on the Building Classification and Regulation Initiative, which includes the regulation of bachelor and shared accommodation. The initiative forms part of the Department’s efforts to enhance urban planning, improve the efficient use of buildings, and provide a safe and well-regulated residential environment that meets community needs and enhances quality of life in Ajman. It also aligns with the Department’s vision of creating an attractive urban environment and its objective of achieving comprehensive urban management.
In this regard, Mr Mohammed Abdulwahab Mustafa, Director of the Municipal Control and Inspection Department, stated that the initiative is part of the Department’s efforts to address challenges associated with bachelor and shared accommodation by establishing clear frameworks and regulations governing residential occupancy. This aims to achieve a balance between the needs of different segments of society and urban planning requirements. He noted that the initiative adopts a clear methodology for regulating and classifying buildings in accordance with specific requirements and standards.
He explained that the workshop aimed to familiarise relevant stakeholders with the new policy regulating bachelor and shared accommodation, introduce the initiative’s objectives and priority areas, and clarify the requirements and conditions approved by the Department to allow bachelors to reside in buildings within defined regulatory frameworks. The workshop also introduced the concept of shared accommodation and its implementation mechanism.
During the workshop, the Director of the Municipal Control and Inspection Department highlighted the key features of the initiative and its implementation mechanism. The session reviewed challenges associated with bachelor accommodation and the solutions developed by the Department to address them, contributing to better regulation of residential accommodation, improved compliance with approved requirements, and enhanced quality of the urban and residential environment.
The workshop also witnessed the official launch of the initiative and the commencement of the service. Participants were introduced to the pilot phase, the application process, and how to benefit from the service. The dedicated online application link was launched, enabling participants to access the platform and familiarise themselves with the steps and procedures for submitting applications.
The pilot phase covers a number of priority areas, including Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya, Al Nakheel, Liwara and Al Rumailah, paving the way for evaluating and further developing the initiative based on implementation outcomes and the requirements of the next phase.
Representatives of real estate companies operating in Ajman participated in the workshop, which provided a platform for direct engagement with stakeholders, responding to their enquiries and clarifying the procedures and requirements associated with the initiative. This supports stronger partnership and integration between the Department and the real estate sector in implementing the new policy and achieving its objectives.
