The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman was established in 1968 by a decree of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, as the entity responsible for organizing the emerging city at the time, regulating construction and planning affairs, and developing the urban environment in Ajman. Since then, the Department has undergone significant transformations in its role and responsibilities, evolving from managing basic services to leading an integrated urban development system that today forms one of the main pillars of progress in Ajman. As Ajman expanded both urbanely and economically, the Department grew in parallel to keep pace with this rapid development, advancing its services, structures, and projects in line with the emirate’s modern aspirations.
The Department’s efforts today align with Ajman Vision 2030 – Ajman for People, which places the human being at the center of development. It works to enhance quality of life through the development of advanced infrastructure, the promotion of health and safety, environmental preservation, and the provision of proactive and digital services.
Guided by its 2025–2027 Strategy, the Department continues to advance efficient public services, comprehensive urban planning and management, improved health-supportive and environmental infrastructure, and the development of an integrated mobility system that enhances road network connectivity and supports sustainable transportation.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, the Department strengthens integrated waste management, works to reduce pollution and progress toward carbon neutrality, protects natural resources, and supports a competitive business environment that attracts investment, while reinforcing the Emirati identity and building an inclusive and cohesive community.
The Department further invests in empowering national talent through research and innovation programs that enhance Ajman’s readiness for the future, upholding its institutional values and strengthening governmental excellence through innovation and efficiency. It continues to develop advanced digital services and ensure the sustainability of financial resources and the effective management of municipal assets to support Ajman’s sustainable future.
