Ajman Municipality Reviews Best Practices in Construction, Artificial Intelligence and Urban Planning in Qatar

A delegation from the Department of Municipality and Planning – Ajman conducted an official visit to the State of Qatar to review leading practices and advanced experiences in construction, Building Information Modeling (BIM), the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in building permit issuance, urban planning, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The visit reflects the Department’s commitment to exchanging expertise and benefiting from international experiences to enhance its services and digital ecosystem. It also aligns with the Department’s direction towards achieving government leadership through agility, innovation, efficiency, and a results-oriented approach, in line with its strategic objective of developing advanced digital services.

The delegation was headed by Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, and included Dr. Hooria Ahmed Al Blooshi, Planning Advisor at the Infrastructure Development Sector; Eng. Ahmed bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, Director of the Buildings Department; Aisha Saleh Al Tunaiji, Director of the Spatial Information Systems Department; and Eng. Hamdan bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Buildings Engineer.

As part of the visit, the delegation attended the Qatar BIM 2026 Conference, where members explored the latest practices and technologies applied in the construction and infrastructure development sectors. They also reviewed relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, as well as lessons learned from various BIM projects, highlighting the potential of these technologies to enhance planning, implementation, and project management efficiency.

The visit also included an overview of Doha Municipality’s municipal operations, during which the delegation was briefed on its strategy, organizational structure, operational processes, and services. The delegation further explored key experiences and practices adopted to advance municipal service delivery.

In the fields of urban planning and Geographic Information Systems, the delegation visited Urban Planning Affairs and the Center for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS). During these visits, members reviewed urban and spatial development plans, applicable planning standards and requirements, and advanced geospatial applications. These included aerial photography, the development of specialized geospatial systems, geospatial integration with partners, and city digital twin applications.

Commenting on the visit, Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Omair Al Muhairi emphasized that the visit forms part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to promote knowledge and expertise exchange in areas related to infrastructure development and municipal services.

He noted that exploring advanced experiences in the application of artificial intelligence, Building Information Modeling, and geospatial technologies opens new opportunities to further develop operational systems and enhance service efficiency.

The visit forms part of the Department’s broader efforts to exchange knowledge and expertise, explore successful international practices, identify potential partners in infrastructure and construction projects, and assess opportunities for collaboration that contribute to service development and greater operational efficiency across the Department.
