MPDA Food Lab tests 2,438 food samples, with 93% compliance rate in 2026 1st quarter

The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) has announced that 2,438 food samples were tested at its food laboratory during the first quarter of 2026, with a 93% compliance rate, as part of an overall monitoring system reflecting the efficiency of the food safety enhancement procedures, and aligning with the strategic objective of strengthening food and environmental management, under the Ajman Vision 2030 goals to improve life quality in the Emirate of Ajman.

In this connection, Dr. Eng. Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the MPDA’s Public Health and Environment Sector, asserted that these results reflect the effectiveness of the regulatory system in the Emirate and its around-the-clock efforts to enhance food safety and protect public health, in line with global best practices in this field. The food laboratory relies on advanced analytical technologies such as PCR and nucleic acid analysis techniques, in addition to GC and HPLC, enabling highly accurate testing and the issuance of results within hours, compared to traditional methods, playing great part in raising work efficiency and speeding up procedures, he noted.

He added that the test results reflect a high level of commitment to food safety standards, within a regulatory system that utilizes the latest laboratory technologies.

For her part, Makia Ghloum, Director of the MPDA’s Central Laboratories Department, said that the laboratory continues to develop its technical capabilities to ensure the accuracy and speed of test results. She noted that the unified laboratory management system, “Fahis,” has contributed to accelerating procedures, reducing paperwork, and enabling the electronic submission, tracking, and reporting of applications, thus enhancing digital integration between laboratory and regulatory operations.

The food samples tested included a diverse range of products, such as meat and poultry and their products, dairy products, processed food products, sweets, oils and fats, grains and legumes, beverages, and other products available in the emirate’s markets. These products, sourced from food establishments, retail outlets, and markets, underwent physical, chemical, and microbiological testing to verify their compliance with approved standards, Ghloum added.

It is worth mentioning that the MPDA carries out a comprehensive food safety plan within an integrated system of monitoring programs and initiatives which include inspection campaigns, testing of agricultural products, and food monitoring in schools and markets.

These efforts underscore the department’s role in supporting the Emirate’s food safety system, contributing to protecting public health, improving quality of life, and strengthening consumer confidence in the quality of products available in the markets.
