The Environmental Laboratory at the Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) announced a remarkable increase in the number of samples examined during the first quarter of 2026. Samples totaled up to 496, compared to 360 during the same period in 2025, an increase of roughly 38%. This reflects the ongoing development in regulatory work and the strengthening of efforts to protect the environment and public health in the Emirate, in line with the strategic objective of enhancing food and environmental management and the Ajman 2030 vision.
Integrated Regulatory System
The analyzed samples covered a variety of environmental fields; 72 seawater samples for water quality monitoring, 28 groundwater and agricultural water samples, 73 cosmetic product samples, and other 323 environmental samples, within an integrated monitoring system covering various sectors in the Emirate of Ajman.
In this connection, Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the MPDA’s Public Health and Environment Sector, asserted that this increase in the number of samples reflects the MPDA’s commitment to strengthening the environmental monitoring system, explaining that efforts are being intensified to operate according to best international practices.
Dr. Al Hosani spoke about the importance of testing and its crucial role in detecting pollutants and supporting decision-making based on accurate scientific data, thus ensuring the protection of public health and the preservation of the environment.
Cutting-edge laboratory equipped with the latest technologies
For his part, Eng. Abdullah Al Tamimi, Director of the Central Laboratories Department, noted that the Environmental Laboratory is eyeing non-stopping development in its procedures and technologies, referring to the adoption of the latest equipment and technologies, along with implementing international quality standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 and launching the Laboratory Management Information System (LIMS). This has contributed to raising work efficiency, expediting the issuance of results, and enhancing integration with monitoring systems, which supports achieving environmental sustainability in the Emirate.
It is worth mentioning that the Environmental Laboratory specializes in conducting environmental tests and analyses under local and federal legislation in the UAE. Its services include testing factory waste, seawater and creek water, groundwater, wastewater, organic fertilizers, and cosmetics, thus supporting the protection of natural resources and enhancing the quality of life in the Emirate of Ajman.
