The Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman has unveiled a range of projects dedicated to agriculture, the landscaping of recreational areas, and expanding green spaces across the emirate. These efforts are designed to boost community well-being and happiness, enhance the overall quality of life, support Ajman Vision 2030 in fostering an appealing and livable urban environment, and contribute to the strategic objective of increasing public space accessibility per capita.
Beautification of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Street over 18 Kilometers
In this context, Dr. Eng. Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, the Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector within the Department, highlighted that these projects form an integral component of the Department’s extensive plans encompassing all regions of the emirate. These projects are designed to expand green spaces and enhance parks and recreational facilities, thereby promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment for both residents and visitors.
Dr. Eng. Al Hosani stated that the Department is progressing with the beautification project on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Street, covering a span of 18 kilometers at a cost of AED 9 million. The project involves planting shade and ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, creating a dual-use path for bicycles and scooters stretching about 12 kilometers, as well as a one-kilometer rubberized walkway. The project is currently 60% complete.
Waterfront Beautification
Dr. Eng. Al Hosani highlighted the efforts to enhance the new 3-kilometer-long waterfront through irrigation and landscaping works. The project encompasses greenery and irrigation installations around the running and cycling tracks, along with play zones and rest areas, featuring plants suited to the marine environment. Completion is anticipated by the end of September.
Community Park
As part of public park development, Dr. Eng. Al Hosani stated that the Department plans to implement the Community Park project in Al Montazah area on an area of 30,000 square meters. The park will feature a smart irrigation system using treated water, a health services building, jogging tracks, family seating areas, children’s play zones, and an exploration play area catering to various age groups. The park will also host the first green glass dome model with systems simulating icy, tropical, and desert environments. The dome’s cost is approximately $5 million, while the overall park cost is around AED 11 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
12 Residential Parks
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Saif Al Muhairi, Director of Agriculture and Public Parks at the Department, explained that the current projects reflect the Department’s vision of developing an integrated green infrastructure that meets the needs of all community segments. Regarding residential parks, 12 are currently under construction in various areas of the city, at a total cost of AED 10 million, with 65% completion so far, and are expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
The Department is also implementing a project to upgrade recreational facilities in line with international standards for people of determination, ensuring inclusive and accessible recreational environments for all community members.
It is worth noting that, in cooperation with the Office of the President’s Initiatives, the Department is executing a project to expand the irrigation network to cover larger areas of the emirate. The project aims to establish approximately 30 kilometers of treated wastewater distribution networks, in line with the national agenda targeting 96% reuse of treated wastewater, contributing to the supply of high-quality water for agriculture, city landscaping, industrial uses, and cooling plant needs.
