The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) announced full readiness for the rainy season with a comprehensive plan focused on enhancing the Emirate’s preparedness and continuity of key services, and ensuring smooth traffic flow, and safety of residents.
72 Pumps, 28 Stormwater Drainage Stations
Preparations included equipping 72 mobile stormwater pumps distributed across various areas of the Emirate, maintaining and upgrading 28 pumping stations to ensure their operational efficiency, along with carrying out pre-season preventative works that included cleaning drainage inlets, maintaining pumping stations, and removing sand.
Proactive Plan
The MPDA noted that work goes under a well-thought-out proactive plan to ensure the efficiency of the stormwater drainage system and the sustainability of the infrastructure in various areas of the Emirate, as part of its efforts to ensure a safe and sustainable environment in line with Ajman Vision 2030.
81.65 km Long Stormwater Drainage Networks Covering the Emirate
The MPDA announced that the total length of stormwater drainage networks covering the Emirate of Ajman to date has reached 81.65 km. Qualified cadres are adopting comprehensive and integrated plans to carry out and develop network projects all over the Emirate.
The MPDA noted that field teams are fully prepared to handle emergencies resulting from weather fluctuations. The Rain Emergency Team and the Ajman Relief Team will be deployed in the field during weather emergencies, in coordination with relevant authorities such as Civil Defense, the police, the Etihad WE, and Ajman Sewerage. It hailed the cooperation of various government entities in the Emirate for providing a rapid and coordinated response during weather conditions.
Package of Development Projects
In the context of a continuum, the MPDA is implementing a package of stormwater drainage network development projects in various areas of the Emirate this year. It includes the Al-Hijin Street Development Project – Phase 1, the Sheikh Zayed Street Development Project in the Al-Helio area, the Al-Salam Street Development Project – Phase 2, the Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street Development Project – Phase 1 (bridge), the City Center Roads Development Project – Phase 1, the Sheikh Zayed Street Stormwater Drainage Station Development Project, and the maintenance and development of main roads in the Industrial Zone.
Smart Innovations for Immediate Response
All modern road projects cover integrated stormwater drainage networks to prevent water accumulation and ensure the highest traffic safety standards. They also rely on smart innovations and weather forecasting programs in cooperation with the National Meteorological Program to enhance field readiness and rapid response capabilities.
It is worth mentioning that the MPDA goes on with developing its infrastructure system and enhancing its operational efficiency, ensuring the sustainability of services and life quality in the Emirate, and going in line with the wise leadership’s aspirations for a safer and more sustainable future.
