DPW- SHA learns about best practices in sustainability from MPDA

The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) received a delegation from the Department of Public Works-Sharjah (DPW) in a visit geared towards strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise, and learning about best practices in environmental sustainability.

During the meeting, the MPDA’s Environment and Development Department presented a detailed overview of its efforts to enhance environmental performance and achieve sustainable development, including its non-stopping commitment to reducing pollution and supporting the gradual transition into carbon neutrality as a key strategic objective, in line with Ajman Vision 2030 for promoting environmental sustainability.

The DPW-SHA was briefed on the role of the air quality monitoring stations’ system in improving environmental indicators and ensuring public health. The Environment and Development Department reviewed the operational mechanisms of these stations and their impact on providing accurate data that support environmental assessments. It also reviewed the Blue Carbon Project, which aims to enhance carbon sequestration by protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems. It highlighted the project’s importance in raising the efficiency of natural carbon absorption and supporting resource sustainability, as well as addressing the mobile air quality laboratory, which serves as a valuable addition for real-time air quality measurement in various locations, contributing to quick and effective decision-making to address any emerging environmental issues.

The two sides discussed means of strengthening current and future cooperation, where they stressed the importance of tapping into expertise and experience in preparing sustainability reports and continuing reciprocal visits to review environmental indicator systems and develop mechanisms for implementing and calculating emissions under best practices.

The DPW-SHA’s delegation hailed the MPDA’s progress in environmental sustainability, and the efforts made and the advanced technologies employed. They affirmed that these experiences are an inspiring model that can be leveraged to develop environmental initiatives and achieve optimal results.
