As part of its efforts to enhance environmental sustainability and life quality, the the Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) has presented the fruits of its initiatives related to this year’s tree-planting season which eyed the implementation of a host of quality projects tailored to increasing green cover and improving urban landscape in residential neighborhoods. The initiatives included the opening of three new parks, the implementation of the “A Tree for Every Home” initiative, and the launch of the first phase of the Environmentally-Friendly Perennial Trees Numbering Initiative, in line with Ajman’s vision for a healthier and more sustainable environment.
Anchoring Positive Environmental Culture
Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, the MPDA’s Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector, asserted that the initiatives implemented during the tree-planting season embody the MPDA’s ongoing commitment to promoting a culture of sustainable agriculture and increasing greeneries, along with preserving perennial native trees and providing integrated urban environments within neighborhoods, reflecting the Emirate’s focus on achieving a higher life quality and a community with diverse green facilities.
3 New Residential Parks Opened
The season saw the opening of three new residential parks: Al Baraqah Park in Al Mowaihat 2, covering 595 square meters; Al Muqayyad Park in Al Raqaib 2, covering 2,100 square meters; and Al Montazay Park in Mohammed Bin Zayed 1, covering 6,500 square meters.
The parks feature comprehensive amenities; walking paths, children’s play areas, family seating areas and green spaces. Improvements have also been made, such as enhancing play areas, increasing green spaces and providing shaded seating areas. The parks were located near residential areas to foster community bonds and encourage physical activity and environmentally-friendly practices.
Al Hosani noted that the new park projects reflect the MPDA’s vision of enhancing the urban landscape and providing family-friendly spaces. Community engagement is a key element in the success of the tree-planting projects and in improving life quality, he stressed.
“A Tree for Every Home” Initiative – Distribution of 10,223 Seedlings
The MPDA also carried out a large-scale event to distribute seedlings to residents of the Mushairif area, distributing 10,223 diverse seedlings, with the aim to encourage home planting, increase green spaces within neighborhoods, and raise environmental awareness among residents during this period.
Environmentally-Friendly Perennial Trees Numbering Initiative
The MPDA launched the first phase of the Environmentally-Friendly Perennial Sidr and Ghaf Trees Numbering Initiative, which saw 50 trees over 30 years old numbered in Ajman. The initiative adopts a digital numbering system that includes an identification plaque containing information about the tree and a warning about legal penalties for damaging it. The information is written in several languages to ensure accessibility for all community members.
