The Municipality & Planning Department – Ajman announced “Majlis Mushairef” project, aiming to designate a communal council at Souq Mushairef, which is one of the Emirate’s oldest markets, boasting its vibrant life, heritage and authentic identity, and which also witnesses a daily gathering of the residents of the area.
In this regard, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al-Muhairi, the Executive Director of the Department’s Infrastructure Development Sector, confirmed: “The higher leadership, in concurrency with the “Year of Community”, cares for meeting the needs of the population in various fields, most importantly, bolstering communal cohesion and bolstering bonds and relations, coping with the trends of Ajman Vision 2030 for the building of an inclusive, cohesive and capable society.”
Dr. Eng. Bin Omair talked about the idea of the Majlis, which the Department will commence to implement in the last quarter of 2025, stating: “Souq Mushairef is witnessing a casual gathering of the residents of the area, where they exchange talks and restore the spirit of communication, which was a prominent feature of old traditional Majlises.”
The Organization of a Meeting with Mushairef Residents
Dr. Eng. Bin Omair stated: “The Department has found it appropriate to organize a direct meeting with the residents of the area, including Mr. Hassan Khamis Al-Muhairi and Mr. Jamal Saleh Hiyaz, to hear their opinions, suggestions and contemplations on the place. The meeting was received with considerable interaction, as the attendants conveyed their happiness about the Department’s care to provide a regular and permanent place of meeting to encourage positive communication and to enhance belongingness to the place.”
The Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector proceeded: “The initiative is a reflection of the Department’s interest to invest in public spaces, not only urbanely, but even socially and culturally as well, and the transformation of the same to motivators of social cohesion and urban integration, as they are an embodiment of a contemporary vision that revolves around the reality of the people, and that demonstrate the importance of listening to the society when planning for any future project.”
A Majlis that Corresponds with the Urban Fabric of Souq Mushairef
The Majlis will be designed in an architectural approach that is inspired by the heritage environment of the place, to carry the identity and spirit of the market, and to seamlessly integrate within its urban fabric for the preservation of its outstanding identity and authenticity.
A Platform for Daily Meetings & Dialogues
It is notable that “Majlis Souq Mushairef” will be an open space for communal dialogues and positive initiatives, and will be a meeting point for generations, enhancing family and communal bonding, and restoring the educational and cultural role of Majlises, and to be a station of dialogues and daily experiences that have always been a unique feature of communal life in Ajman.
