MPDA honors “Innovation in Environmental Sustainability” winning schools

The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) organized the Innovation in Environmental Sustainability Competition, aimed to encourage innovation in the service of sustainable development, confront the climate change’s challenges, support school students’ interest in sustainability and raise their environmental awareness of environment-related sustainability.

 

Engineer Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector, said that the MPDA sought to implement the competition within the activities of the 7th Ajman International Environment Conference, crystallized in presenting the project’s idea and discussing the extent of its importance and its service to sustainability and confronting climate change.

 

Eng. Al Hosani said that the competition aimed to encourage environmental innovation among students and motivate them to build physical models or prototypes that provide sustainable solutions to environmental problems. The idea of the competition is based on translating innovative ideas into tangible functional models in waste management, carbon neutrality, climate change and sustainability, Eng. Al Hosani added.

 

51 Participating Schools

Eng. Al Hosani said that the competition saw the participation of 51 schools from various parts of the State, with an average of 126 innovations, and 350 participating students. The students’ projects varied in the sectors of waste management, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, preserving the marine and terrestrial environment, and smart homes, Eng. Al Hosani continued.

 

Emirates National Schools – Sharjah Ranked First

It is worth mentioning that the Emirates National Schools – Sharjah ranked first for the Smart Agriculture Project, while the Zayed Educational Complex, Al Dhait South, ranked second for the Smart Waste Bin Project, and Al Hijra School ranked third for the Solar Scanner Project.

 

Through these initiatives, the MPDA is keen on supporting and encouraging school students to research and innovate on various environmental issues and to support environmental sustainability through projects and innovations that can be adopted and supported for the best results, Al Hosani added.
