Sheikh Zayed Road expansion inaugurated, MPDA announces

The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) has announced the inauguration of the Sheikh Zayed Road development project, spanning from the intersection with Sheikh Khalifa Street to Al Rawda Bridge. The project, valued at 11 million AED and extending over 3.7 kilometers, aligns with Ajman Vision 2030’s ambitions to establish an integrated and sustainable transportation network.

Four Lanes in Each Direction

For his part, Dr. Engineer Mohammed Ahmed Bin Omair Al Muheri, Executive Director of Infrastructure Development at the MPDA, confirmed that the project aims to introduce an additional lane in each direction, increasing the total from three to four lanes per side. The project also encompasses comprehensive improvements to the stormwater drainage system and the modernization of street lighting to meet the highest safety and quality standards.

Reducing Commute Time

Dr. Bin Omair added that the project would contribute to a 35% reduction in travel time, decreasing the average journey from 4.9 minutes to 3.2 minutes. Additionally, it will augment the street’s capacity by accommodating 1,300 vehicles per hour in each direction; namely 2,600 vehicles in both directions, raising the total from 3,900 to 5,200 vehicles per hour in every direction.

Comprehensive Development Plan

He further stated that this project forms part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the road network and infrastructure across the emirate. The expansion will elevate the quality of life, facilitate daily mobility, and bolster the ongoing urban and economic renaissance in Ajman.

For his part, Engineer Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, Director of Roads and Infrastructure, emphasized that the project will directly alleviate traffic congestion and improve flow. He noted that the team has diligently adhered to the scheduled timeline and maintained high standards of quality to accommodate the rapid urban development demands.
