Ajman Municipality and Planning Department received a delegation from Ras Al Khaimah Public Services Department. The visit comes within the framework of exchanging expertise and getting acquainted with the best practices and leading experiences in the file of waste management.
Mr. Abdullah Al Marzouqi, Director of Rasid Department, welcomed the visiting delegation and gave a detailed presentation on the local policies and legislation adopted for the waste management. This included the source sorting out methodology and the mechanism of its implementation in residential and commercial areas. Mr. Abdullah Al Marzouqi also reviewed the challenges facing this system, ways to overcome them, and the positive results achieved.
The meeting reviewed waste treatment methods in the Emirate, classification of waste according to its type whether municipal, commercial, industrial, construction, or organic, as well as data on the percentage of recyclable waste, which reached 36%.
The visiting delegation was briefed on the mechanism of cooperation with private sector companies in the collection, treatment, and re-export operations, particularly with regard to electronic waste and reusable materials.
The meeting also reviewed the most prominent initiatives aiming at reducing waste from the source and promoting environmental awareness. These included the “Day Without Bags” initiative, the “Electronic Waste” initiative, and the “Proper Disposal of Used Oil” initiative, in addition to awareness programs targeting schools, such as “Schools Without Waste” and “Zero Carbon Schools,” that aim to consolidate environmental practices among younger generations.
On their part, the visiting delegation commended the role played by the Department in the environmental field, its effective efforts, and innovative practices in the field of waste management, emphasizing that the practices followed constitute an inspiring model that can be leveraged to develop environmental systems. The delegation also highlighted the importance of continued coordination and exchange of expertise to serve the national goals for environmental sustainability.
