The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) has announced the roll-out of the smart “Green Wave” system on Sheikh Zayed Street in the Al Helio area and Sheikh Ammar Street in the Emirate of Ajman. Launched as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and optimize traffic flow, this initiative aims to improve road efficiency and safety across the Emirate, in line with the goals of the Ajman 2030 Vision to build a fully integrated and sustainable mobility system.
Eng. Khamis Salem Al Matroushi, Director of the Operations and Maintenance Section at the Roads and Infrastructure Department, affirmed that the roll-out of the system marks a game changer in enhancing traffic flow. “Green Wave system significantly reduces repeated stops at traffic signals, thereby shortening travel times and supporting environmental sustainability by lowering fuel consumption and emissions” he explained.
Smart technologies
“MPDA seeks to harness advanced technologies and smart systems aimed at enhancing the well-being and safety of residents and road users, emphasizing that such initiatives ensure easier, faster, and safer access to key destinations across the Emirate”, he added.
Connecting all Intersections to a smart system
“This development initiative comes as part of a comprehensive and integrated plan to upgrade and connect all signalized intersections through a smart system, utilizing the latest internationally recognized technologies”, he noted.
It is worth mentioning that “Green Wave” System is designed to intelligently connect and synchronize traffic signals, enabling vehicles to pass through multiple intersections, while maintaining the designated speed limit, which in return helps in reducing traffic congestion and ensures around-the-clock smooth traffic flow.
