The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) has announced the completion of all preparations for the launch of the Ajman International Forum for Sustainable Development, themed “Climate Actions for Carbon Neutrality.” The event will be held at Ajman X Center from May 6th-7th, 2025.
In this regard, Dr. Engineer Khaled Moen Al Hosani, the MPDA’s Executive Director of Public Health and Environment, emphasized that the forum constitutes a prestigious global platform aimed at convening thought leaders, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from diverse sectors. Its purpose is to foster collaboration, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and showcase innovative solutions to achieve carbon neutrality and sustainability objectives on both local and international levels.
Al Hosani further noted that the current era is marked by accelerating climate challenges and increasing urbanization. Consequently, the demand for innovative and sustainable solutions has become more urgent than ever. He explained that cities worldwide serve as hubs of opportunity yet face growing vulnerabilities to climate change, resource constraints, and socio-economic disparities.
He clarified that all stakeholders are diligently uniting their efforts to attain carbon neutrality—a goal to balance the amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emitted into the atmosphere with the amount removed or offset, resulting in net-zero emissions.
Al Hosani added that the forum aligns with international initiatives and strategies, including the United Arab Emirates’ national strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Participants will engage in constructive dialogues, share transformative ideas, and explore practical strategies to develop cities that prioritize sustainability and human well-being.
Regarding the second day of the forum, Al Hosani mentioned an internal session dedicated to a select group of experts. The session aims to review the progress of the Ajman Carbon Neutrality Strategy project, identify key challenges and opportunities, and outline the subsequent steps for project implementation in line with Ajman’s sustainability priorities. It also seeks to draft the preliminary outline of Ajman’s net-zero emissions strategy.
The MPDA invites environmental specialists from sectors such as energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, transportation, consulting firms, contracting companies, and environmental agencies from both public and private sectors. It encourages experts in renewable energy, energy efficiency, carbon capture technologies, as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations concerned with environmental and sustainability issues. Additionally, academic scholars, scientists, researchers, high school students, and community members supporting local climate initiatives and societal engagement are encouraged to participate in this vital forum.
