Ajman Municipality Hosts Transport Authority Delegation to Explore Best Practices in Contracts and Procurement Department

The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) welcomed a delegation from the Transport Authority during a visit focused on reviewing best practices implemented within the Contracts and Procurement Department. The Department plays a central role in addressing requirements, securing essential supplies and delivering projects that support the UAE’s drive to cut carbon emissions, strengthen environmental sustainability, and enhance community well-being

 

Ammar Abdulkarim Al Kaid, Acting Director of the Contracts and Procurement Department at MPDA, affirmed that the MPDA remains committed to cooperation and constructive engagement with all entities and departments. He noted that meaningful partnerships are essential to achieving sustainable growth and excellence, and to delivering outcomes that positively impact the Emirate.

 

During the meeting, the Department presented its organizational structure, which includes the Procurement Section, the Tenders and Auctions Section, and the Warehouses Section. The team also reviewed the Department’s policies and operational indicators focused on cost rationalization and the adoption of smart systems, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency and transparency.

 

Tawreed Platform

The discussions also shed light on the Tawreed digital platform, which facilitates suppliers’ access to tenders and announced projects, while allowing them to submit quotations online. The platform enhances market competitiveness and speeds up procurement procedures. The Department’s further showcased a series of reference manuals it has developed, including manuals on procurement management, inventory control, sustainable practices in supply chains, warehouse occupational safety, and proprietary resources— the latter of which has been accredited with intellectual property rights.

 

Striving for Excellence

The meeting also included a detailed presentation on the procurement lifecycle, the procedures of the Tenders and Auctions Section, and the process of receiving materials at warehouses. It further highlighted the role of the supplier relations team, which is dedicated to supporting suppliers and addressing their inquiries. The team has launched several notable initiatives, including the “registration and communication initiative”, the “Daleel” technical support service for purchase requests, in addition to extending warehouse operating hours from 8 to 12 hours to enhance flexibility and responsiveness.

 

The discussions also covered the “first suppliers forum,” which showcased upcoming projects and opportunities for joint cooperation, and received strong engagement from participating suppliers.

 

Positive Initiatives

In its drive to strengthen environmental awareness and embed a culture of sustainability, the Department rolled out several awareness campaigns, including sustainable procurement, green supplier and green inventory. The initiatives have yielded clear results, earning the Department ISO certification in sustainability and a spotless record with zero complaints.

 

Looking Ahead

Concluding the visit, the Transport Authority delegation lauded the MPDA’s achievements, praising the Department’s innovative initiatives and advanced digital and sustainable services. The delegation also emphasized the importance of continuing such constructive engagements and the exchange of successful experiences and best practices that contribute to improving performance and driving the desired development goals.
