The Department of Municipality and Planning – Ajman announced that the emirate’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a percentage of 96.19%, according to a report issued by the Department on statistics for the first half of 2025. This is in line with the trends of the Ajman Vision 2030’s objectives to promote environmental sustainability.
In this regard, Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, confirmed that the index witnessed a significant increase compared to previous years, reaching 94.40% in the first half of 2024 and 93.48% in the same period in 2023, which confirms the effectiveness of the environmental initiatives launched by the Department and the success of its plans to reduce air pollution and promote sustainability.
Launching Environmental Compliance Program
Dr. Eng. Al Hosani explained that this achievement is the result of continuous efforts and comprehensive and integrated plans, including the launch of several environmental projects and initiatives, most prominently the “Environmental Compliance Program,” which aims to enhance control over industrial facilities, requiring them to submit semi-annual reports assessing air pollution levels, for boosting environmental compliance and contributing to corrective action when necessary.
Expanding Measurement Stations Network
Dr. Eng. Al Hosani stated that the network of the seven accredited air quality measurement stations has been established in accordance with international standards and within the classification of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, indicating that the Department seeks to increase the number of stations to 10 in the coming years to keep pace with urban growth in the emirate.
Advanced Environmental Data Management Program
Dr. Eng. Al Hosani confirmed that all stations are linked to the Environmental Data Management Program, which is considered a leading system locally and regionally, enabling receiving notifications, preparation of environmental reports, and continuous air quality monitoring. The stations also contain precise measuring devices that monitor variables such as wind speed and direction, relative humidity, and main gases.
Continued Commitment to Achieving Healthy and Safe Environment
Dr. Eng. Al Hosani explained that environmental work is ongoing, and that the Department continues to implement the best local and international environmental practices, contributing to enhancing the attractiveness of the Emirate of Ajman as a healthy and safe living environment, and supporting the achievement of carbon neutrality as part of the State’s environmental goals.
