Ajman Municipality and Planning Department (MPDA) announced the amount of waste processed in the Emirate of Ajman in 2024, i.e., 133,000 tons. This is in line with the MPDA’s goals to protect the environment and achieve environmental sustainability by reducing landfills and optimal use of resources.
In this regard, Eng. Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector, confirmed that the MPDA adopts clear and integrated plans to intensify efforts and integrate tasks to protect the environment and achieve environmental sustainability by reducing landfills and optimal use of resources by reusing waste and converting it into energy to achieve carbon neutrality and reducing the ecological footprint.
Eng. Al Hosani stated that the MPDA is working to implement several initiatives that have effectively contributed to increasing the proportion of properly treated waste. These initiatives include source-sorting for hotels, restaurants, food factories, and vegetable and fish markets. In addition, the MPDA is working in collaboration with the private sector and partners to implement projects to convert waste into alternative fuel and convert waste to energy. He explained that the ambitious and talented people are working to find innovative solutions for waste that is currently not being treated.
Eng. Al Hosani pointed out that the rate of proper waste disposal in the Emirate reached 30%, including the conversion of 500 tons per day to alternative fuel (RDF).
It is worth noting that the amount of treated waste increased last year compared to 2023, in which the amount of treated waste reached 66,000 tons due to the rapid increase in population growth, urban sprawl, and economic and tourism growth in the Emirate of Ajman.
