The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) announced the launch of an automatic issuance mechanism for residential villa building permits for UAE nationals through five-star rated engineering offices only, in a step aimed to expedite construction procedures, improve customer experience, and enhance the quality of engineering outputs, in line with the Ajman 2030 vision to create a modern environment that enhances the Emirate’s attractiveness and life quality.
Streamlining procedures and providing best services
This initiative is part of the MPDA’s efforts to streamline procedures and implement best government practices. Five-star rated offices are authorized to approve architectural and structural plans directly without prior review by the MPDA’s engineers, while a subsequent audit review will continue to ensure compliance with the local building code and approved technical requirements.
Improving Citizen journey
In this connection, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the MPDA’s Infrastructure Development Sector, asserted that the initiative is geared towards improving the citizen journey and reducing the time required to issue permits, describing this step as an incentive for engineering offices to adhere to high technical and professional standards.
The MPDA selected eight engineering offices with a five-star rating system based on their distinguished professional track record and commitment to technical requirements and standards, and these offices will serve as role models for other offices, motivating them to enhance their performance and participate in future expansion phases within the automated issuance mechanism, Omair said, adding that the initiative is based on four strategic pillars: smart transformation and streamlined procedures; improved service quality and increased customer satisfaction; enhanced technical performance and quality of engineering outputs; and partnership with the private engineering sector to achieve sustainable urban development.
Smart City
Engineer Ahmed Sultan Al Nuaimi, Acting Director of the Buildings Department, indicated that the initiative embodies the sustainable work to build a smart city that is responsive to the needs of its residents. It also strengthens the partnership between the public and private sectors, based on trust and shared accountability to ensure the provision of high-quality services to the community.
Phase One
Engineer Al Nuaimi added that the initiative, in its first phase, targets five-star rated engineering offices, citizens who own residential villas, and government entities supporting the construction sector in the Emirate. This plays great part in creating a positive competitive environment and encouraging offices to improve their technical and professional classifications.
It is worth mentioning that the MPDA works continuously to improve its service system to keep pace with the best local and international practices, providing a seamless and smart customer experience, while adhering to the highest levels of quality and efficiency. This ensures the achievement of sustainable urban development and the well-being of citizens.
