The Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman Takes Immediate Action to Handle Rainwater Accumulation

Following the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, and based on his commitment to provide the necessary preparations and tools to handle rainfall in line with global safety measures, the Roads and Infrastructure Department has made significant efforts to deal with water accumulation as the country witnesses intense rainfall. The Municipality has raised its readiness level based on comments and notifications it has received through the free hotline 80070, and its teams have taken immediate action is flooded streets and squares to ensure the safety of community members and preserve the Emirate’s beautiful image.


His Excellency Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, praised the work of the emergency teams that have been tirelessly working on removing excess accumulated water to ensure the continuation of traffic and normal life. His Excellency clarified that the Department had formed 15 emergency work teams to monitor rainwater drainage across the Emirate, with tasks distributed to guarantee an immediate response to all requests. The Department has also distributed 65 mobile pumps to extract rainwater and 25 water cisterns. He also noted that an emergency plan had been put in place to guide workers and the mechanisms used to help limit the damages of rainfall, hoping that the rainy season would be one of prosperity and good fortune.


Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, confirmed that the Municipality had put in place a comprehensive plan to deal with water accumulation during times of intense rainfall. All dedicated teams have been deployed across main streets and squares, and residential areas and have been taking the necessary measures since the first instances of heavy rainfall. They have been equipped with mobile pumps that provide great readiness and ability to deal with large accumulations of water. The teams have been working around the clock and with great competence in all areas to guarantee the safety of road users and to avoid any possible damages.


Eng. Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, Director of Roads and Infrastructure Department, stated that the teams have been working hard under the supervision of their department and unit directors, who have remained on the field to follow-up on the removal of obstacles and extraction of water to guarantee the safety of community members. He noted that the teams had been deployed across the city’s main streets and squares according to the set plan and following meteorological predictions of heavy rainfall and winds in the area. The teams have been equipped with the necessary tools and have started opening roads, low-lying areas, and some locations that lack water drainage networks. They have been dealing with all the notifications received through the hotline and all emergency requests submitted by the wastewater department. The hotline is open 24/7 to receive tips and deals with all the information it gets through direct communication with the Municipality’s teams.
