Masfoot Spring Festival Celebrates the Legacy of Ancestors

Under the directives of HH Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, and the supervision of HE Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Department, the cultural heritage activities of the third edition of Masfoot Spring Festival kicked off on December 13, 2019 extending until January 10, 2020. The festival takes place in Al Warqa Park in Masfoot region aiming at promoting the domestic tourism in the region. The festival activities include cultural competitions, traditional games, folklore shows performed by Emirati folk groups and theatrical folk performances written by and starring Emirati artists. The festival will also include numerous sport competitions that showcase competitors’ abilities to overcome the geographic challenges of the region, being located between mountains around its great valley. Furthermore, the Iron Man competition, the most famous triathlon in Ajman, will also take place during the festival along with other competitions, such as the best traditional dish contest, the air gun competitions for kids and the tug of war. This event annually attracts about 2,500 people per day throughout the month of December, with active participation from residents as well as sponsors and volunteers from the public and private sectors.


Mr. Saif bin Ghadeer Al Ketbi, Director of Masfoot Office, said that the festival was organized in accordance with the directives of HH Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, in order to boost domestic tourism, attract visitors and create entertaining programs for the people of Masfoot region. Daily draws, prizes, competitions and heritage activities were also organized to take place in Al Warqa Park. The “Heritage Village” is also ready for the productive families and businesswomen from across the region to display their heritage products that emerge from the authenticity of the Emirati heritage, the purity of our past and the deep roots of the history of this region. The festival aims at introducing new generations to the legacy of our ancestors and the significance of preserving it.


He then went on to stress the efforts of the festival to diversify its activities and dedicate a week for certain events to satisfy all guests, attract larger audiences, meet the needs of all segments of society and ensure providing varied family-friendly activities. Weekly draws will be held on valuable prizes in addition to cultural competitions on an outdoor stage that will highlight that nature and beauty of Masfoot. Cooking competitions will be held for women to show their cooking skills in both traditional and Arabic dishes.


Al Ketbi mentioned that the festival would last for a whole month and have many themes, starting with the cultural week. He also stated that the festival has been an annual great success with the huge daily turnout during the spring break. He highlighted the importance of following the directives of our wise leadership in preserving our rich cultural heritage and introducing it to younger generations, noting that many productive families will have the chance to display traditional dishes, clothes and costumes. Moreover, the kids’ cinema will surely guarantee an atmosphere of joy among visitors, not to mention the weekly cash draws for competition winners.
