Municipality and Planning Department discusses the integrated waste management projects and Ajman landfill with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment

TwitterHE Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, met a delegation of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment chaired by Engineer Yousef Ahmed Al Raisi, Director of the Department of Municipal Affairs. They discussed how to enhance the mutual cooperation and coordination between the Department and the Ministry in the integrated waste management projects in addition to the presentation of the Ministry's plan to rehabilitate Ajman landfill through the best global practices in the field. The importance of the project is due to leading the protection of environment, reduction of harmful emissions and maintenance of health and safety of population.

 

In attendance of Engineer Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector of the Department, he discussed the integrated waste management projects that aims to reduce the waste production rate and utilize such waste through recycling, processing and reusing it through integrated management systems in addition to raising society’s awareness on the significance of applying sustainable production and consumption mechanisms which represents one of the Ministry’s strategic objectives. The Ministry cooperates with the various concerned entities and institutions at the State level to realize this objective and accordingly to contribute to the realization of the targets of the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE Centennial 2071.

 

 

He indicated that the Department is continuously seeking to adopt vital initiatives and projects that are positively impacting all aspects of life. He pointed out that the qualified and competent personnel working in the Department contributed to raising awareness among all society segments, introducing them to the best practices to dispose waste and encouraging recycling to be a way of life.

 

The guest delegation reviewed the key legislations and laws governing the sector and the mechanisms of handling waste in terms of collection, transport, disposal, recycling, treatment and reuse in all sectors, including the Federal Law No. 12 of 2018 on Integrated Waste Management, Ministerial Resolution No. 21 of 2019 on the use of recycled aggregates from construction and demolition waste for road construction and other infrastructure projects, and Ministerial Resolution No. 98 of 2019 on using Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) produced from waste treatment procedures in cement plants.

 

It was agreed in the meeting to intensify the joint efforts between the Ministry and the Department to reduce the waste production rate in the community in general, raise the recycling, treatment and reuse rates, and increase the contribution of the waste sector in the application of green economy ecosystem as well as discuss landfill rehabilitation projects across the Emirates in general and Ajman landfill in particular.

 

At the end of the meeting, the Minister highly appreciated the significant cooperation provided by the Ministry and expressed the keenness of the Ministry to bring the memorandums of understanding signed between the two parties into reality.
