Ajman Municipality and Planning Department Showcases its Experience in Green Building, Sustainability and the Construction Modelling Project at the Future Build Exhibition

March 26, 2019

Ajman Municipality and Planning Department participated in the Future Build Exhibition which was organized by Ajman Chamber under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the Supreme Council UAE and Ruler of Ajman. 52 local and international entities participated in the exhibition to witness the latest successful experiences in the field of construction and building in the Emirate.

During the three-day exhibition in Al Zorah, the Department reviewed its experience in requiring all residential villas to comply with the Green Building and Sustainability standards. It also highlighted its experience with the Construction Modelling Project, which aims to facilitate procedures for the owners, consultants and customers so that they can all be familiar with all the minute details of the building before its construction thanks to features like 3D viewing of buildings.

While touring the platforms of the participating entities, His Excellency Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman said that the Department, under the direct guidance of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, is keen on participating in such exhibitions. This vital exhibition brings together the leading entities in the construction and building sector to develop their businesses and exchange knowledge and experience. He noted that over the past period the emirate has witnessed a boom in construction and made a quantum leap in the field of construction.

His Excellency also pointed out that during the past period the Department has worked on mandating the compliance with green building and sustainability standards for all residential and investment villas in the Emirate, as well as the villas that have not obtained a building permit yet, in addition to existing residential villas undergoing modification and maintenance or a change in the type of usage previously licensed. This stemmed from the department’s keenness to implement sustainability standards in all vital sectors and to reach its vision in creating a sustainable environment and a modern structure to build a brighter future for the Emirate of Ajman.

While honoring the Abu Dhabi Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, His Excellency also expressed his pride in the joint cooperation between the two parties and their commitment to the terms of the memorandum of understanding that aims at implementing  sustainability in the Emirate. This is in line with the Ajman Government 2021 vision to build a green economy, taking into account the green building requirements and standards that provide an advanced and sustainable infrastructure which ensures the reduction of carbon emissions in the Emirate for all visitors and residents.

For his part, Eng. Khalifa Abdullah Al Falasi, Director of the Buildings Department, said that green building is aimed at improving buildings and minimizing their negative impact on the environment and public health. Optimal construction depends on choosing the best construction sites as well as meticulously designing, constructing and regularly maintaining the building. He stressed that citizens are going to reap the benefits of green buildings, which will cut costs thanks to green building requirements that ensure a reduction in the consumption of energy and water,  while improving health standards in general, not to mention minimizing the negative impact on the environment by improving the climate.

During the exhibition, the department also presented the construction completion and integration modelling project, as well as Ajman 3D BIM (Building Information Modeling), which is one of the most important projects adopted by the department. BIM provides an architectural information environment that deals with asset information in a comprehensive way right up from the start the design up until reaching the stage of dispensing with it.

This technology is aimed at designing the different elements of the building not only as geometrical 2D and 3D shapes, but also as elements with physical, mechanical and electrical properties. This allows rapid transition from the stage of design and simulation to the stage of reaching engineering results and execution plans. The entire life cycle of the building can be showcased through information modeling, including building construction operations.
