Ajman International Urban Planning Conference “Towards Geospatial Cities” kicks off on 29 October

Ajman Municipality & Planning Department has announced that it has completed all the required preparations for the launch of the 2019 Ajman International Urban Planning Conference. The conference will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid al-Nuaimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council, and the Ruler of the Emirate of Ajman, at the Emirates Hospitality Center on the 29th  and 31st  of October 2019, Under the theme “Towards Geospatial Cities” with the participation of leading international specialists, theorists and academics in the field of architecture and city planning.

This came during a press conference held by the Ajman Municipality & Planning Department at its main headquarters in the presence of members of the Supreme Committee, to announce the theme of the conference as well as its sessions and related events.

Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, and Chairman of the Higher Committee of the 2019 Ajman International Urban Planning Conference, said that the conference is in line with the vision of Ajman which focuses on building a happy society that will contribute to building a green economy backed by a distinguished government in harmony with the spirit of the union. The 9th  Ajman International Urban Planning Conference will focus on improving the city’s decision making process by using a geographic information system (GIS). The conference will also discuss the use of geographical systems in smart cities, artificial intelligence, and urban planning.

 

Dr. Bin Omair added that during this conference, we will highlight the contributions of the Emirate of Ajman to geospatial communities at the national, regional and international levels. We will also highlight the role of spatial information systems in city planning and improving decision making toward achieving Ajman vision 2021. He stressed that the conference seeks to exchange experiences, transfer knowledge, present and discuss best practices of GIS in cities and foresee the future of GIS technologies, in addition to discussing spatial technical solutions that support smart cities and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Bin Omair also pointed out that during past editions, the conference hosted a number of the world’s leading urban architects and planners to benefit from their views and expertise and utilize them towards achieving the comprehensive development plans of Ajman emirate, which are aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman. Through this conference, His Highness seeks to create an elite forum that brings together experts, specialists, academics and decision makers from around the world to discuss the latest advancements and development policies in the field of city planning and architectural trends and linking this with urban development in the UAE in general and in the Emirate of Ajman in particular.

For his part, Mr. Issa Al Awadhi, acting chairman of the conference speakers committee, said that the conference will host delegations representing the cities across the world that have succeeded in creating geospatial cities to benefit from their experiences. The conference will also host leading academics and professors from major universities around the world.

 

It is worth noting that the conference will address topics such as; spatial information systems and smart cities; urban planning through spatial information systems; the future of spatial information systems; the importance of location-based services and spatial information systems; building information model (BIM), sustainability and spatial information systems; disaster management with the help of spatial information systems; artificial intelligence and spatial information systems; space science applications, smart solutions, big spatial data, cybersecurity, spatial data infrastructure, as well as three-dimensional and virtual reality. The conference will also include workshops and events that will focus on teaching the younger generations how to move towards achieving geospatial cities.
