The Department of Ajman Municipality and Planning was founded under the law (1) for the year 1968, issued by His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman.

Thanks to his guidance, the Department began exercising the functions and responsibilities assigned to it in the field of development and services with a limited number of staff and workers at the time, and with this humble beginning the modern scientific planning began to permeate in the city to provide for all citizens their modern requirements. 

The Department accomplished several achievements in the "Race for Excellence" and participated in more than one award in this area, and was considered the most distinguished among the local departments over the past five years, due to the wise policy pursued by His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, head of the Department, and his continuous follow-up of the workflow and his eagerness to communicate continuously with its leaders and employees. Its repeated successes are also due to the success stories achieved by virtue of the major developments that have occurred in services, its policy in the application of management standards, outstanding in all its forms, and the keenness to continue the policy of electronic-transformation in all its dealings with its strategic partners inside and outside the Emirate. 

During the march of more than a quarter of a century, the Department's achievements and projects of civilization contributed to the support of the integrated civilized march of the Emirate, and the strategic landmarks began to be developed by the Municipality and Planning Department in the areas of planning and total modernization, which takes into account the features of the future and the natural evolution of the movement of people, the increasing proportion and breadth of their different requirements of life, and decentralization in order to facilitate the delivery of services to all residents of the Emirate in their present sites. For this, there were two branches of the Department in each of the regions of Masfout and Manama.   

A visitor to the Emirate of Ajman today will observe the development of civilization in the Emirate, as witnessed by the extensive construction for the establishment of new areas, modern primary and secondary roads and the expansion of agricultural areas, gardens, parks, public facilities and markets. The Emirate also witnessed great development in the areas of agricultural, environment and health, which makes her a modern city.
